The idea of the “blacksmith musician” was widely spread in the ancient world: from the biblical myth of the blacksmith Tubal-Kain, half-brother of Jubal, inventor of musical instruments (lyre, psaltery, flute), to the legend handed down in Helleno-Latin literature that attributed to Pythagoras the discovery of musical intervals as he walked past a blacksmith’s forge. Artykuł ma charakter retrospektywny i jest swego rodzaju podsumowaniem osiągnięć diecezji opolskiej na polu muzyki kościelnej. Jest to także wypowiedź o miejscu i wadze kultury muzycznej w pasterskim posługiwaniu Kościoła katolickiego, z wyraźną dozą generalizacji. Refleksja oparta jest na strukturze 11 punktów, o nieprzypadkowej kolejności, wzajemnie dopełniających się treści. Odwołują się one do faktów historycznych, tradycji i kultury Śląska oraz współczesnej rzeczywistości muzyczno-kościelnej.

Musicologists and cultural researchers often consider the issue of songbooks, discussing their content, context of creation and history, as well as possible subsequent editions and changes occurring in them. The article discusses issues related to the functioning and usability of songbooks nowadays, seeking the answer to the question of whether songbooks are needed? It also discusses modern ways of replacing traditional songbooks with new technologies. The text includes examples of contemporary activities related not only to the development and publication of subsequent books, but also initiatives to maintain the songbook tradition and to show its value and timeless usefulness.
